This community is centered around topics relevant to Indivisible Forest Grove (IFG), such as our advocacy groups, our rallies, and other projects. Members of other advocacy organizations are welcome to join in IFG group chats as well, provided they abide by our guidelines.
We are a big movement, and disagreements are inevitable and welcome. Keep the chat supportive and respectful. That’s how we organize. That’s how we win. All participants are expected to conform to IFG’s stated values: truth, objective reality, inclusion, fairness, respect, integrity, and security & privacy, as laid out in our ‘Who We Are’ document. Some discussions may become heated, but as members of a shared community it is in our best interest to commit to de-escalation whenever possible. De-escalating a text argument involves shifting from combat to connection by pausing, validating the other person’s feelings, and moving the conversation to a voice call or, best case scenario, an in-person meeting. Key strategies include using phrases such as “I understand where you’re coming from” avoiding long, charged messages, and taking a temporary break to calm down.
Signal is only as secure as its weakest link. By participating in IFG group chats, we expect you to take reasonable actions to safeguard other members, such as asking permission to share photos outside of the group chat. You may notice that some members of the chat utilize a pseudonym in place of their name. This is standard practice for those associated with Migra Watch or other projects concerning vulnerable populations. If you have concerns over privacy regarding someone using an alias, please connect with one of the chat administrators privately.
Unacceptable Behavior for IFG Signal chats: Ad hominem attacks (arguments or reactions directed against a person rather than the position they maintain), unnecessarily graphic or obscene content, pornographic content, hazing, harassment, bullying, doxxing, and intolerance.
